Frequently asked questions.
Can I still get lessons if I don’t have a pool?
YES! In Kamloops, we now offer indoor group and private swimming lessons downtown in the Thompson river hotel and conference center hotel. Check out our services page for our indoor swimming lesson schedule.
We also offer private swimming lessons at an indoor pool space in Vernon.
My kids are at very different skill levels. Can they still be taught together?
Our instructors can teach several different swim abilities at the same time. However, to see the best progress from our students, we suggest splitting up those with different swimming abilities into separate classes.
How many and how often should I book lessons?
Hopeful Swimming prides itself on offering flexibility to our clients and will work with you the best we can to fit into your busy schedule. In our experience, there are two different scheduling setups that show the most success in the improvement of our swimmers.
Four days a week for two weeks in a row
Two days a week for four weeks in a row
Every child learns at a different speed and faces other obstacles in their progressions, but eight lessons are the best amount to see significant progress in most swimmers.
Do I have to get in the water with my kids?
You do not have to be in the water with your child if they are over the age of three*. You are welcome to be in the water during the class if your child is older; however, in our experience, we find kids perform best and improve faster when their parents are not in the water with them.
* We offer a parent and tot lesson set up for children under three. You will learn basic holds and techniques for your little one to set them up for success in their swimming journey.
Do I need to stay and watch the lessons?
You are welcome to stay in the backyard and watch the lessons. We know everyone's lives are busy, and we encourage you to take the time your child is in lessons to complete some of your to-do lists, have a snack, or take a break. We ask that you stay on your property during the lesson.
What does my child need to have for their lessons?
All you will need for your lesson is your bathing suit and towel. For beginner participants, we discourage the use of goggles and lifejackets. We want our participants to learn lifesaving swimming skills.
If your child was to fall into a body of water and didn’t have their goggles on, would they panic, or would they be able to stay calm and swim to safety? In Hope’s 10 yrs of lifeguarding experience, she has seen countless individuals who “know how to swim,” but as soon as their goggles fall off or fill up with water, they panic and begin drowning because they don’t know how to swim with water in their eyes.
Because of this, we highly encourage all of our beginners to learn to swim without goggles first.
